Palm gets jiggy with it and releases another new WebOS phone.

Ok, maybe it wont be as big as the marketing for Apple this afternoon, but Palm is bringing out more devices that will be using the new WebOS. This new device is called the Palm PIXI and it will probably be geared towards the Palm CENTRO market and other new users to WebOS. Check it out the links below:

Sony finally bows down to pressure and cuts the price of the PS3 by $100 (Now $299.00) and announces a new PS3 Slim

The internet blogs and news outlets were buzzing about a Sony PS3 price cut for the past year or so. The CEO of Activision (maker of the popular Call of Duty series) even came out and threatened the CEO of Sony about needing to cut the price of the PS3, otherwise they may be forced to make Activision games for consoles who are selling more (i.e Wii and Xbox360). Read the wonderful news about the PS3 Price cut and new Slim line series!

Microsoft is starting to promote Hyper-V? Yes, Microsoft is getting into the VMWARE World.

Microsoft released Windows Server 2008 on the market recently. Is this something new? Not really. Just better management utilities and better security features, but the real push behind Windows Server 2008 is MSFT's Hyper-V technology. The virtualization software that Microsoft is bringing to the small and medium size business world. Hey, if the large customers (i.e. Nissan) want to use our Hyper-V technology, then why the hell not? Well, it seems Nissan just recently did. Check out the article! I think this is just the start of a battle in the Virtualization world. Of course, we have the behemoth VMWARE. Lets see what happens. Lets get readyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to rumble!!

Microsoft encouters a nasty memory leak problem. Will Windows 7 still come out as planned on 10/22/09 or will it be delayed?

Microsoft was almost at the end of the tunnel with Windows 7. The blogs and reviews of Windows 7 for the past seven months have been great and with news of RTM (release to market) version of Windows 7 going to prominent partners (i.e Asus, Dell, Acer, HP,e tc..) in the past few weeks, one would think that it was going to be a stellar Fall season for Windows 7. Unfortunately, a major flaw was found recently in Windows 7 RTM version. It's a major memory leak that will cause our good ole BSOD. The infamous Blue Screen of Death. Microsoft is blaming the problem on hardware vendors, but read the article and you make the call. I am currently running Windows 7 on one of my machines. I was loving it till i read this article. Lets see what Microsoft is going to do fix the problem.

Microsoft releases 20,000 lines of code to the Linux community in order to sell more software!

It’s so funny how people keep telling me that Linux is not that big in the Operating System world. If they are not that big, then why has the Biggest Software Maker in the world (i.e. Microsoft) decided to give 20,000 lines of driver code to the Linux community under the GPlv2 licensing agreement?!?!?

If the biggest software company in the world is recognizing that businesses want to use Linux on their computers alongside Windows, then why the hell not? Especially when Microsoft is promoting it’s new Virtualization software (Hyper – V) which is embedded into Windows Server 2008. I know they are far away from the goliath company called VMWARE who runs the Virtualization market, but hey you have to start somewhere.

Microsoft better watch out, Google is entering the Operating System market!

I have always told everyone that Microsoft (MSFT) makes most of their money from Operating Systems and Office Productivity software. Everyone knows that Google has already started promoting their Google Apps, but now it looks like they are going to come out with a new operating system called "Google Chrome OS". I think this is kind of funny because i was recently talking about this concept with my good friend George. I said, "Most people these days turn their computer on and go straight to the web browser". Therefore, what does Google do? They decide to come out with a new operating system based on the Google Chrome Web Browser. Hmmmmmmmmm...Very Interesting...Read the whole article!

Does the Palm Pre live up to all of it's hype? Has a new iPhone competitor come to market?

About a month or so ago, i blogged about a guy named Jon Rubinstein who basically invented the IPOD and is now the brains behind the new Palm Pre smartphone and is now the new CEO of Palm. I have been researching this phone for months and reading all the reviews for months and was set on upgrading to this phone when it came out, but i was still hesitant because i was tricked so bad last year by Sprint's Marketing campaign for the Samsung Instinct. I remember when this phone was coming out that Sprint was proclaiming it was the "iPhone Killer". My god, was that far from the truth. After playing around with my Samsung Instinct phone for over a month last year, i finally realized i was conned. Most of my friends also who picked up the Samsung Instinct were not impressed. Don't get me wrong, the Samsung Instinct phone was fine, but the software on the phone was horrible.

Lets forward to present day, i have just upgraded to the NEW Palm Pre. I have only had the phone for a few days now, but i had a lot of time to play with it over the long holiday weekend. From my initial usage, here are my reviews:

PROS:

- The new webOS software is awesome. Not bad for a first attempt for a Mobile OS. Just don't turn the phone off. If you need to re-boot, it take a few minutes.

- The Web Browser is awesome. It's about the closest thing you are going to get to an iPhone browser. Sure, it's not exact, but it's pretty darn close!

- GPS is great. It uses the same TeleNAV software that my Instinct was running. The great thing is "MY FAVORITES" just synced over to the new software automatically so i didn't lose anything between upgrades!

- Universal Search is a great feature on this phone. You just type whatever you want on the QWERTY keyboard and the query will search your phone (contacts, apps, etc..) and you have the option to search Google, Google, Maps, Wikipedia, and Twitter.

- The camera is 3.0 MP camera with FLASH!

- I think the QWERTY keyboard is fine. I mean, i guess it's a bit small, but once you get used to it, it's no big deal. Just like any other keyboard. I have never used a Blackberry in my life till yesterday and i was messing around with the Blackberry Curve and sure the keyboard was bigger, but it takes a bit getting used to just like anything else.

- The Applications are awesome. I have used Pandora (Internet Radio), New York Times, AP News, Accuweather, Flightview, and a few more. Everyone has been complaining that they want more Applications. Give it time folks. If you remember, when the iPhone initially came out, they did't have that many apps as well. I am sure you will see more in the future. I hope so!

- Making Custom Ringtones couldn't be easier. All the ringtone files are in .mp3 format so making a ringtone is pretty easy.

- I love having WiFi capablility on this phone. It's probably because i have hooked up most of my friends and family with WiFi routers so connectivity has been great at peoples homes, but it makes web surfing and other internet related items much more enjoyable!

CONS:

- You can't forward text messages. I know? Very strange. Hopefully this will be fixed with a future update from Palm.

- No Video recording as of yet. The rumor is that Palm may fix this with a future update.

- Battery on the Pre is not bad, but it's not great either, it's the middle of the road just like all the SmartPhones. I mean most SmartPhones i have seen only last 1 day on normal use (web surfing, email checking, sms texting, watching videos, listening to music,etc..) which means you must charge it at least once within 24 hours. Be sure to charge the battery fully and then drain it all the way down! This is the most important thing! I think i was just spoiled when i got the two batteries with my Samsung Instinct phone last year. Yes, i couldn't believe Samsung gave me two batteries last year for the Instinct. Who gives you two batteries? Just crazy, but i agree with Samsung, i think all SmartPhones should come with two batteries considering how much people use them. Hopefully battery technology will become better in the future.

- Unable to change the Ringtone for any Text Messages or Emails that come through on the phone. I can't understand why you can change the ringer, but not the notifications. Another example of Software Engineers just not going the extra mile. Hopefully a future update will fix this problem. I guess for now, i will have to live with the "Bing" sound.

- Phone conversations are great indoors or in closed environments, but when you are in the car with the window open, it's hard to hear the other person. I guess most phones are hard to hear when you have the windows open, but it seems a bit harder on this phone. If you are indoors, no problem.

CONCLUSION:

It's only been a few days, but so far i am pretty impressed with this phone. It has a few flaws, but i can't be too upset considering it's BRAND NEW PHONE and OPERATING SYSTEM (i.e. webOS) from Palm. The operating system on the phone is what makes the phone work smoothly. This is what makes Apple so successful. Your mobile Operating System is the key to you enjoying your phone. If that is no good, then who cares about the hardware. Palm has already started to push updates for the webOS so hopefully some of the CONS will be fixed in the future.

Is it better then the iPhone? The Palm Pre has been in development for the past two years and they hired one of the top engineers at Apple in Product Development who basically invented the IPOD, so it's the closest thing you are going to get to the iPhone without having to switch to AT&T. Thank god, because i can't stand AT&T. Maybe if the iPhone comes to Verizon or Sprint, then i will consider the iPhone. Lets see how this phone does over the next few months and then i will do a follow-up review on this blog posting.

Remember when Acer was never given any respect in the PC business. Well, think again...Acer poised to beat Dell, become number two PC maker

I remember all of my computer friends and buddies telling me that Acer computers are garbage. Don't purchase them. The quality is not that good. I will have to admit that i used to agree with them, but now because of some of the recent changes i have seen from Acer, i can see why the company is on the heals of taking the #2 position away from Dell. Check out the link to an interesting story about Acer.

2010 Ford Taurus SHO....This is not your Daddy's Taurus or your Rental car from Hertz anymore!

It's about time Ford Motor Company! The Ford Taurus was one of Ford's top selling vehicles for many years. The problem was that they never re-designed the car and used the same old boring design for 15 or so years. Most recently, Ford even dropped the Taurus name (WTF?) and switched the name to the Ford 500. Probably, one of the biggest marketing blunders i have ever seen. C'mon Ford? What do they teach you in Business School.....BRAND RECOGNITION IS THE KEY! Therefore, after 15 years of hyping up the Ford Taurus brand name, they decide to drop it totally. What the hell were you thinking?

It looks like Ford finally realized their mistakes and are coming back stronger then ever. The quality numbers on Ford's have been the highest and years and most recently they announced the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO! Check out pictures and the article on the Ford Taurus SHO! Pretty Sweet. They are comparing it to an Audi A6 and BMW 535xi

Here are some pictures of the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO!

The government is going to investigate exclusive contracts between cell phone carriers and phone makers (i.e. Iphone/AT&T?, PRE/Sprint, etc..)

Everyone has been complaining lately about the stupid exclusive agreements between phone carriers and phone manufacturers. The number one complaint i hear about the IPHONE is that it's on AT&T's network. The phone itself is great, but the service is lacking. Other exclusive contracts are Sprint's new Palm PRE (which is only 6 months..far less then the current Iphone/AT&T exclusive contract). Exclusive G1 Android Phone by T-Mobile and the Blackberry Storm from Verizon. Check out the article.

Blu-Ray is getting cheaper. Walmart is offering a Father's Day special for $128 Magnavox Blu-Ray player!

Well, after months of waiting, and waiting, and waiting for Blu-Ray players to come down in price. It looks like the prices are finally starting to come down. Of course, the company with the biggest purchasing power is beating everyone to the game. Walmart just announced that they will be selling a $128.00 Magnavox Blu-Ray player starting 06/14/09 - 06/20/09. This is a lot cheaper then spending $200.00-$300.00. Sounds like Blu-Ray is going down in price. I estimate a $100.00 sweet spot by Christmas this year!

Peace,
Sunil

Former Apple Executive who basically invented the IPOD is now the new CEO of PALM. Do i hear a Palm comeback emerging?

My good friend Jeff introduced me to this article about Jon Rubinstein who used to work for Apple and basically invented the IPOD. In recent months Mr. Rubinstein was hired by Palm along with many other Apple employees to work on the Palm Pre which was just released by Sprint this past weekend. Today, Palm just announced that Jon Rubinstein is now the new CEO of Palm. Is Palm gearing up for a comeback. Well, initial reviews on the Palm Pre have been positive. Only time will tell.

PALM PRE - The Full Reviews From Phonescoop, Engadget, and Gizmodo.

This weekend was the launch of the Palm Pre phone. Why is this the talk of the cell phone market? Well, two reasons. In the last 18 months, Sprint has lost over 1,000,000 customers due to VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE and it's inability to compete with AT&T's Iphone. Palm's earnings recently have not been well also in the past year. Therefore, the Palm Pre is a last ditch effort by Sprint and Palm to revive both companies. Will the Palm Pre add a little spice to both Sprint and Palm. Well, they have a six month exclusive contract till AT&T and Verizon have the Palm Pre. You be the judge. Check out the reviews below:

Palm Pre reviewed by a reporter: Palm's Pre shines in ways, not in others

Everyone has been buzzing about the Palm Pre coming out this weekend on June 6th, 2009. It has won big awards at the CES 2009 show already and some have even been touting this phone as the first big competitor to Apple's popular Iphone. Will it live up to the hype. Only time will tell, but in the meantime, click on the title of this article to see the full review.

Move over Windows Vista, Windows 7 is coming out October 22, 2009!

It's been about a little over two years since Microsoft tried to woo the world with Windows Vista. Windows Vista came on the market in Jan'07 and after years of success with Windows XP, Microsoft's success was starting to take a spiral downward (great NIN album..LOL). Microsoft has had nothing but problems with Windows Vista and now to get the bad taste out of everyone's mouth, they have decided to come out with Windows 7. Lets just says i have been using the Release Canidate and installed this operating system a few months ago and i was very impressed. It is by far the fastest windows installation i have seen in years. Also, the User Authentication Control (UAC) in Windows 7 has been minimized. UAC was that annoying windows pop-up that kept coming up in Windows Vista that kept asking you "Are you sure you want to do this?". If you use Windows Vista, you know what i mean. Anyways, i have used Windows 7 for about 5-6 months and it's pretty good so far. Let's see how it performs when the final version hits the market on 10-22-09. Well, its that time of year again. The big E3 gaming show started today and who is making a ton of new announcements? Microsoft of course. The Xbox 360 was touted by Bill Gates a few years ago as his gateway to everyone's living room. I will have to agree, he has done a great job so far as long as your XBOX 360 doesn't get the Red Ring of Death. Check out all the interesting things that are coming to the Xbox 360 (click on the links below):

1. Twitter and Facebook on Xbox 360

2. Motion Controller for Xbox 360 (similar to Nitendo's Wii)

What the heck is Bing.com?

The Internet Search market has evolved over the past 10 years. The first leader was Yahoo who was the leader of the Internet Search Engine market between 1994-1998. Who would have thought that searching for NBA Fantasy Basketball statistics would lead to the development of Yahoo. Yes, Yahoooooooooooooo started from two young college students at Stanford University who wanted a better way to find NBA Fantasy statistics. Then in 1998, two young students by the name of Larry Page and Serge Brin from the same Stanford University decided to work on a graduate research project involving a better way to search the Internet. This project has turned into one of the most popular search engines in the U.S market and the world. This project is now called Google. Google.com is now used by 64 percent of Americans as of last month. The next closest competitor was the former leader Yahoo who currently has 21 percent of the American Search Engine market. Finally, Microsoft who has dominated the PC Operating System and Productivity Software market has approximately 8 percent of the American Search Engine market has failed miserably in the last 10 years to gain any more market share on Google or Yahoo. Therefore, for the past two years, Microsoft has tried to purchase Yahoo without any success. The recent CEO ousting of Jerry Yang has finally put Microsoft in a position to maybe strike a deal for Yahoo or Yahoo's Search Engine. In the meantime, Microsoft has been quietly working on a new Search Engine which is set to launch to the public next week on June 3rd. What fancy name did they come up with???

Sprint Looks to Palm Pre for Turnaround Help

The Iphone has been the default standard of comparison for most SmartPhones these days. It looks like the days of Iphone's dominance in the US Cell phone market are numbered. Starting next week on June 6th, Sprint will launch the Palm Pre. The Palm Pre was first introduced to the public earlier this year at the CES 2009 show in Las Vegas. The phone stole the show by winning it's most prestigious award for best innovative product of the year. This new phone is suppose to bring a new O.S. to the Cell Phone market called WebOS developed by Palm. This new mobile O.S. will offer familiar web standards such as CSS, XHTML, and Java Script so developers can build applications for the Palm Pre with no difficulties. Click on the link above to read the full article on PCWORLD.com.
