The internet blogs and news outlets were buzzing about a Sony PS3 price cut for the past year or so. The CEO of Activision (maker of the popular Call of Duty series) even came out and threatened the CEO of Sony about needing to cut the price of the PS3, otherwise they may be forced to make Activision games for consoles who are selling more (i.e Wii and Xbox360).
